Minecraft Xmas Creative Build – And The Winner Is…

It’s time! The final winners of our month long creative build competition – the best of the best, the most creative builds, chosen not only by our judges, but the final decision was made by a Minecraft celebrity on the interwebs – MinecraftChick from Mojang!
Mojang crafted this amazing game from its roots as a 1 man project, when Notch came up with the idea years ago. Now its a phenomenon! You can play how you want too – survival, where you use your wits, a pickaxe and other various tools to survive everything from zombies to creatures from the nether! Or if you want to be creative there is the creative mode – used in this competition – where you can craft whatever you can dream up! One day you might be as good as these guys.
If you did not already know – you can play the game with friends – all you need is a top class Minecraft server. We are the biggest supplier of Minecraft servers in the world for a reason, and we think you should give us a try! Just visit our game server page and order one for yourself, then get your friends together and build some awesome things!
Another note – if you can get to Telford, England for one of out Insomnia events – we host Minecraft competitions during the weekend, and plan on doing something a little special for Insomnia45 in May this year – just watch this space for more information!

3rd: Vandelay Industries – Landscape & Castle (Wins $250!)

3rd – Vandelay Industries Cathedral/Castle build – turn up your display brightness for the dark areas

“This castle is beautifully designed. The attention to detail displayed in every area is absolutely incredible. I would love to visit this castle IRL.” – MinecraftChick
This build was placed into a beautifully crafted grassy valley, with rivers and trees. Containing huge halls that simply look incredible, it seems to defy its own size from the outside. With the attention to detail, and sheer epic scale, this build impressed our judges to get it a top 3 spot.
2nd: BlueBudgies – Adventure Land (Wins $500!)

BlueBudgies – Adventure Land

“BlueBudgies did a wonderful job creating this beautiful land. There is so much to see and each time I looked at it, I saw something new. I especially loved the flamingo and owl hedges.” – MinecraftChick
And the winner: Summa Crossroads – Multipark (Wins 6 Mojang autographed J!NX shirts and $1000!)

Summa Crossroads – Multipark (Introduction Video 1/5)
Video 2/5 - “Wooden Coaster”
Video 3/5 – “Haunted House”
Video 4/5 – “Skate Park”
Video 5/5 – “Overview and Goodbye”

Woo! First place!
Congratulations to everyone else in the top 20, especially team BlueBudgies in second, the video of that place I saw… wow!
Can’t wait to get the t-shirts! :3
Thanks Multiplay for hosting such an amazing competition and giving us all the opportunities to let our minds and creativity run wild!
Congrats everyone : )
I’m literally crying, how can you rig a contest so badly, every entry in the COMPETITION was better than first place, and did you even SEE the other builds? This first place is garbage compared to builds like bluebudgie’s and vandelay’s
I’m fucking never coming back here again
This is completely outrageous. Multipark did not deserve 1st place. The build has no curves and no color. What is a forest doing in an amusement park? The build has off theme scenery and is very bland with no contrast at all. I’m not trying to insult Summa Crossroads’ effort to win a competition that they’ve won, but I am targeting the poor decision in judging. Adventure Land deserved first place in my books. Just by comparing the two builds; it’s obvious which one is more appealing and took more effort. Somethings really fishy about this… I’ll find out one way or another.

An utter disgrace on Multiplay’s account. There were HUNDREDS of better ones. I don’t trust these people enough NOT to rig the next competition again, so I will never enter another one of their competitions for a long while.
I’m with you, screw Multiplay.
utenan here, from Vandaley Industries. It’s sad to see some of you guys knocking Summa Crossroads and Multiplay. It is quite apparent that you looked at two screenshots of a build ( who’s primary objective was interaction ) and made your decisions. Hell, I’ll admit that I shared you feelings ( I had BlueBudgies winning as well ) but before I made any concrete conclusions I downloaded the servers and checked them out.
Summa Crossroads park definitely blows my mind. They put so much time and effort into the build, into every “attraction”, really, i can’t describe their build very well with words, it’s just so vast and amazing, there is so much redstone ( contraptions I have never seen before ), there is so much stuff that you can’t even see, which is why it is a crime to make any decisions based off of screenshots, or even videos. Just looking under their build with noclip on is amazing.
I wouldn’t want to judge this contest. It is a creative build off, and opinions really come into factor here ( I had Mithrintia’s castle DESTROYING!! ours ). They decided to go with a build that wasn’t as focused on aesthetics and more on interacting with minecraft mechanics ( Summa’s build is really the only one that did this as far as I can tell ). Their build is incredibly technical, detailed, and well thought out.
So once again, I think it is a crime to suggest that the builders in Summa Crossroads put ” less time” or ” less thought ” into their build, or any other remarks that I have heard like this. And once again, congrats you guys.
Thank you for that comment Utenan, I appreciate you actually taking the time to look at our build before judging it, and also that you understand and appreciate the work and effort that we put in to it. I’m finding a lot of people are just pre-judging, as you’ve said from the screenshots, so thank you for pointing that out. Also thank you for the congratulations!
Also, well done on coming in the top three yourself, your build looks rather awesome from the videos and screen-shots. I’ll have to do you the same courtesy and have a proper look around on the downloaded map. Thanks again =)
So, straight up, after further review, you guys totally used mods? I don’t know how, I mean, thats against the rules right. After playing through the map and wondering why most of the stuff didn’t work for me. I watched the videos of the guy playing through, and he has maps falling out of thin air when you press a button, minecarts popping out of chests and onto tracks by pressing a button, lightning striking when you hit pressure plates, 4×4 gates made of fencing dissapearing when hitting a pressure plate.
None of this is possible in minecraft without mods. I was rather confused when I was going through the map, but brushed a lot of the stuff not working due to my ignorance or redstone complications. So, yeah I am dissapointed, unless you guys can explain this stuff to me.
Also, going back to BlueBudgies build, they had a lot of redstone and interactive stuff as well, I am confused and torn at the moment, but pretty sure I am going back to my original thoughs of ” How did BlueBudgies not win? “

When you logged onto your server there were some signs, those signs explained that the only mods on these servers is craftbook, if you were to have taken the time to learn what craft book was you could have had a lot of the awesome stuff these guys did.
now to summa crossroads, i have to say, it has been an honor working along side with you guys, even on different plots, i learned alot myself on how redstone works with craft book (even if Aspec didnt find it all and missed a button or two
) and cannot wait to make my own craftbook server.
I hope to play in another contest against all of these great builders and will hopefully get past tenth next time.
Great job everyone, and good luck for next time.

well damn, my ignorance! my apologies then

com Yeah, by mods they mean client-side modifications, such as x-ray mod, or speed-hacks etc. The only plugins enabled and allowed were Craftbook-ICs and Falsebook-Vehicles (I think they added falsebook vehicles ’cause the craftbook carts weren’t working). If there were any other plugins enabled I didn’t know about them, these were the only two we used whilst building and as far as I’m aware they were enabled on *every* competition server, but you’ll have to check with the Multiplay Staff about that.
If you want to see the theme park properly, load up the world on a local host bukkit server with craftbook ICs and falsebook-vehicles enabled, in minecraft 1.0 (1.1 breaks things). Then you should be able to view everything and ride everything!

com Thanks Sean, I enjoyed working alongside you guys as well, seeing Parksville as it was going up was certainly a great sight to see, and well done on making the top ten! In future competitions I hope I have the pleasure of building in the same server as you again, as your team were some great company and on the server.
Everyones builds were utterly amazing, even most of the partially finished ones looked pretty awesome (two examples on the server I was building on), so well done to everyone for the things you’ve all built, and good luck for future contests!
Congratulations on the winners…. but seriously? Im really dissapointed with the choice. i definately know which one i would play.. which one is more beautiful.. when someone puts in as much time to make that and it comes second is disgusting. Which one would you spend more time on ? which one would you enjoy more?
I congratulate summa.. but such a wrong decision was made…
I was holding back on this until I saw the winner, but now I have to say it; one of the contest admins and/or judges is a member of the winning team’s server. This admin (he replied to our support ticket during the contest) runs a Minecraft server called “Summa Crossroads”. Yep, that’s the same name as the winning team. Coincidence?
Not only that, but the winning team was allowed to enter the competition despite not being one of the original 512 teams to sign-up.
What a waste of time this “competition” was.
First of all, the admin that set up and supported the servers was not allowed to judge for the specific reason that his community server had a team entered. Also, several teams were allowed into the competition after the system had issues post 512 teams, with a total of around 522 teams that also was nothing to do with anything. And finally, the top plots were judged by an employee at Mojang, taking the final decision completely away from Multiplay entirely.

This was about creativity, Not interactivity. That was MinecraftChick’s major flaw. It depended on the visuals, and that looked like crap. Kudos to them for configuring all of it, but it was really inapropriatte for the basis of the competition.
I think 2nd or 3rd should’ve been first. Period.

Who says being interactive is not creative? Who says creativity is all about visuals? As far as I’am concerned everyone’s opinion is different on what they think is ” creative “, which is why I wouldn’t want to be a judge in this contest : P
I still would give 1st place to BlueBudgies, that’s just my opinion all said and done, but what I was really trying to get at was that it is bogus for people to be bashing Summa’s build, and trying to take away from their efforts.

Bee from VCGaming Server here! Just wanted to give you a congratulations! Our build only made it to the 10-20th place mark and I wanted to say you guys deserved your place. You guys were on everyday working on your castle and It turned out amazing and has to be one of the best thought out and detailed builds Ive seen in a long time. Congrats again.
That being said, I cant help but also agree that Summa should not have won this. Judging from what Ive read and saw It is defiantly not first place material. But this is not my place to bash so congrats to everyone who has placed. See ya next competition.
Bee =)
I had the same idea and concept like SummaCrossroads but I gave up on the idea, because it would be nothing against a visual appealing and mind blowing build like the others. Now, you really made a theme park the winner. You certainly need some creativity to think of some attractions, but it’s not too hard, you just need to figure out the redstone stuff, which takes time, but it’s not creative. This was a creative building competition, which doesn’t mean who has the fanciest redstone wiring. The winner should be someone who has new and surprising ideas in respect to the way the build was created and used a theme which probably has not been used so often. A theme park is nothing really new and creative, the map space is not even enough to make it in a right scale. I for myself made a build, which was oriented on a city that were to be build in the future and implied the idea of a new age of living. That’s sth I call a fresh and different idea and I just say this to give you an example of what I mean. In conclusion, it really would have helped if any of those builds from 6th and 2nd place would have won. You can not blame it on MinecraftChick, because the theme park shouldnt ahve gone in the top10 in the first place. It is great that you offer such a high prize for the winner, but not knowing what their own competition is about is really awkward. I hope you are aware of your mistake and that you better think this through next time. Thanks for taking your time for reading this. I would be increasingly disappointed if I were one of those guys who had built hundreds of hours to find out that this is the winner.
Regards,
Mewnicorn
