Setup & LAN Rules

Sure, no problem!

Our Red Shirt team of admins will be on hand to help you out with any servers you need setting up to play on.

You can also join #servers on the internal IRC and talk to our helpful team there who will be able to assist you.

Yes, you are welcome to use your Voice Comms server at the event. Alternatively, you can ask our Help Desk team to set you up a local Voice Server for either Teamspeak 2 & 3, Mumble or Ventrilo.

To request a server, join #helpdesk on the event IRC or join #comms. You will also find the Help Desk team near reception on the cunningly sign-posted Help Desk!

Of course! There is a whole host of etailers and shops that attend the iSeries, providing you with the latest and greatest hardware when you need it.

To find out who is attending an event, head over to our Sponsors & Exhibitors page!

If you have purchased a BYOC ticket, then the answer in short is; yes. Assuming you want to play anything that is! You can bring your PC and your console if you wish, but bear in mind that anything you bring on-site is your responsibility!

There are loads of consoles and PC's to play on in the exhibition hall with a huge range of games, which is great for both Spectator ticket holders and BYOC ticket holders alike, but if you are attending for the whole weekend as a participant, you will want to bring your own machine :)

Yes, you can bring both a PC and a console if you wish, but you can't bring 2 screens to run them at the same time! Power is limited at the event, and if too many people plug too much in it causes problems.

Also bear in mind, that you will only have one network plug so you cannot plug both your PC and your console into the network at the same time!

Anything you bring into the event is your own responsibility, so make sure you secure your kit! Additional security stickers are available from the front desk, and Kensington locks are also on sale.

This question is often asked in reference to things like dual screens, televisions, fridges, speakers, fans, grills, network gear and a whole manner of other things that we don't allow to be plugged into the power or network at the event.

Power is limited at the event, so we must be quite strict with what people can plug in. Also, any additional network equipment of your own is strictly not allowed! Anyone found to be breaking network rules will find themselves black-holed from the network. The rules are there to make the LAN better for everyone!

If you are unsure of what you are able to bring, you can either get in touch with us or ask the community on the iSeries forum!

You can plug your PC or console into the network, but nothing else! Any additional network equipment of your own in strictly not allowed! Anyone found to be breaking network rules will find themselves black-holed from the network. The rules are there to make the LAN better for everyone!

Power is very limited at the event, so anything other than your base gaming equipment is not allowed to be plugged into the power network. Things such as fans, fridges, grills etc cause too much draw, and could trip your row!

If you are unsure of what you are able to bring, you can either get in touch with us or ask the community on the iSeries forum!

To find your seat on the Seat Picker, simply login on the left hand side and click on the coloured seating square next to your name. This will take you to your seat on the layout map.

Once you arrive at the event, you will be given your event pass, which will have your seat number, row and hall on it. The event is spread across 2 halls, which you can see on the Venue Layout map.

To find your seat, simply head to the right hall and find your row. Each row has a letter, and each seat is marked with a desk sheet with your name and seat number on. Easy!

Don't worry though, if you are finding yourself a bit a lost, we always have staff on hand to help! Just ask at the front desk and we will help you out :)

No, you do not have to bring a chair. We will provide you with the most comfy chair in the world ever, however if you want to bring your own you are welcome to do so!

No, bringing two monitors is strictly prohibited due to power restrictions at the event.

If you wish to bring your TV as your screen for the event, then that's fine! However we ask that don't bring more than one screen as this adds unnecessary strain on the power network. Any screen bigger than 32" is likely to start encroaching onto your neighbours desks, so please only bring something of this size if you're sitting with friends and they've agreed it's okay.

If everyone brought their speakers the noise in the main LAN would be pretty unbearable! Therefore speakers are strictly prohibited, and you must use headphones instead :)

Nope, afraid not.

No, sharing content across the network is strictly prohibited and may lead to you being black-holed from the network.

We have very clear rules about sharing content of any kind on the network, including Warez and Porn.

You can find out more about the rules of the LAN on our Rules Page.

We have very clear rules about sharing content of any kind on the network, including Warez and Porn.

Sharing any files over the network could lead to you being black-holed from the network, meaning you'll lose access to anything on the network.

Displaying any form of pornography whilst at the event will lead to immediate removal from the event without refund. Our events are a family friendly environment and we have zero tolerance for any form of pornography or inappropriate material at our events.

Oh yes there is! We have a rather nice 1Gb/s of internet bandwidth, kindly provided by event sponsor Demon Broadband. Not only does it allow everyone to play online, but it's enough bandwidth for just about everyone to browse the web too!

Yes, you can use the internet connection to play games on-line, as well as browse!

However, bear in mind that the internet is for everyone, and even though the connection is pretty awesome it's still being shared with thousands of people! Things like making sure your Steam is updated before you arrive helps a lot!

No, we do not operate a wireless network in the event.

There is a wireless network in operation in the exhibition hall, however this is for Press only.

Yes, there is a check-list for packing your stuff! You can find our Check-List here.

Yes, you can bring your own food into the venue, to keep you sustained throughout the event!

Unfortunately you cannot bring your own alcohol on site. The entire venue is licenced – car park included – and so we can’t allow alcohol anywhere on the premises. The bars are open late and have plenty of beer :D

Please note that there is no-where available on site to keep food that requires refrigeration. You also please note that you cannot plug mini fridges into the power to store food in the LAN!

We recommend that you disable File and Print sharing before you arrive at the event, as our security system may black-hole you from the network if you are found to be sharing content across the network. You should also make sure that you do a virus & malware scan before you leave, to ensure that you are not spreading potential virus threats across the network.

Also, make sure you update your Steam before arriving at the event, as this helps a great deal with keeping unnecessary internet traffic to a minimum!

Fear not! We have an awesome team of volunteer staff who will be on hand to help you out!

Staff in Yellow Shirts are the Help Desk team, who can help you out with power and network problems. You will find them near reception, on the cunningly signposted Help Desk!

If you have network but are having other issues, you can join #helpdesk on the event IRC or go to the Help Desk itself!

Yes, you can bring your laptop to use for the weekend if you have a Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) ticket, but bear in mind there is no wireless internet access in the event!

Note that you only get one network point per ticket, and power for one machine, so if you bring your PC and a laptop you will only have one net connection and power socket for them! (also, bringing your own network kit to multiply this single connection is not allowed!)

If you do indeed bring a laptop, please bear in mind that due to laptops being portable we reccommend that you take extra steps to secure it all times. This includes securing it to the desk, and taking it with you when you go to sleep for the night. Check out the Kustom PCs Security Guide on how to keep your kit secure, with a discount code for pre-ordering security equipment ahead of the event.

Whilst we do employ a security protocol at the event for all equipment brought on-site, we must stress that no matter how much we try, there will people that will get round our security measures if you don't take reasonable steps to secure your own gear.

Upon entering the event you will be given security stickers to attach to your equipment, which will match the event pass that you will be given. When you try and take equipment from the venue, your event pass ID will be checked against the stickers attached to your equipment. We also search bags for things such as laptops and consoles, which can be hidden away when leaving the venue.

Graeme from Kustom PCs has created a very useful Security Guide on securing your equipment at the event using the latest security products which we suggest everyone reads before attending!

Whilst we have only had a very very small number of thefts in the last 10 years of the event, we still stress to customers that Multiplay takes no responsibility for the security of your equipment at the event!

For this reason we strongly suggest you check if your computer / other devices are covered under your home contents insurance whilst you're away from the house. Many common policies will cover your equipment whilst it's at our event, but you need to double check with your provider that this is the case.

Nope, you can play any game you want! If you have it, you can play it at the event, no matter what section you are sat.

You can even setup your own tournament if you want! Just ask one of our tournament admins and they will create you a full tournament setup in our event tournament system :)

If you find that people are playing a game that you don't have, don't worry! We have our own local Steam content server, which allows you to get your gaming purchases super quick!

Due to UK law, smoking is prohibited in any of the buildings on site at the event. You can however, smoke outside!

The alternative of course, is to quit smoking altogether ;)

In theory, yes this is fine! However, we reserve the right to ask you to terminate this, and we may block these sorts of activities should we find the bandwidth being saturated.

Yes, you are welcome to take pictures or film within the event as much as you like, provided you do not plan to use anything for commercial purposes. However, if you are going to film other people we suggest you get their permission first.

If you are a member of the press and wish to film at the event, please get in touch to find out how we can help!

Yep! If you are having any technical problems at the event, check out the Help Desk page for the most common issues we get at the events.

Failing that, you can connect to the #helpdesk channel on the event IRC (there is a web version of IRC on the Help Desk page that will connect you)
