How to feel good at an insomnia event

Yes, we know the event is called insomnia, but it’s an expression of a frame of mind, not a suggestion on how to spend the event! Here’s some tips on how to keep both you and your kit healthy and secure during the event.

Make sure you sleep!

Make sure you get some sleep!

We suggest that everyone takes the time to sleep regularly during the event, particularly if you’re drinking caffeinated drinks or alcohol.

Your LAN will be much better if you do, trust us on this!

If you’re the one driving home at the end of the event, we strongly suggest you take the time to get some extra sleep on the Sunday night. Safety is the number one priority, risking an accident is never worth that extra few hours gaming on the last night.

Make sure you eat!

Eat healthily & drink properly!

One of the things many people lose sight of an event is what they’re putting into their bodies, particularly our younger customers. We have people who just munch on crisps and pot noodles for 4 days straight and then wonder why they’ve managed to pick up some bug or dodgy stomach towards the end of the event!

Try and get decent meals at least once a day from the outlets around the show, and bringing your own fruit as a quick and healthy alternative will make you feel loads better over the weekend. We have done many LAN’s over the years, and not just our own, so trust us on this one; we know what we’re talking about!

Everyone enjoys a good night in the Tote bar after a hard competition or a good session of gaming, but it’s easy to just space your alcoholic drinks with a soft drink. It’ll keep you much better hydrated and avoid that horrible hangover. Everyone knows it’s hard to land your head-shots when you’ve got a nasty hangover blighting your aim!

Make sure you wash!

Hygine – Keep yourself clean!

This is something we really hope not have to mention to an event that’s full of grown-up adults, but going for a weekend without a shower is going to make you feel really horrible, and certainly isn’t going to win you any friends!

We have onsite showers, which whilst they do have a queue in the mornings, they’re basically empty for most of the day. Try getting a shower last thing before you go to bed, or get up slightly early to beat the queues. Having to wait in the morning is never a good excuse for annoying your clan by being that smelly guy!

When you’re spending 80% of your weekend sat in one place in the same chair in a hall of gamers doing exactly the same thing, you’re going to be wanting to keep yourself clean. We’ve got visitors from across the country and even some from overseas attending in one big area, sharing the same air and facilities. When you’re sharing the same air as all these different people, you’re going to be exposed to all kinds of new minor bugs your body hasn’t experienced previously and has no immunity to.

Ever heard of Freshers Flu? Yes, this is what causes it to happen, and exactly the same thing happens at LAN events.

Keeping good hygiene when using the bathroom and before eating is the best way to avoid catching anything whilst you’re with us, including alcohol gel to quickly cleanse your hands.

First Aid Help

First Aid

We recognise that sometimes accidents happen whilst you’re at the event, and we have trained accredited First Aid staff on hand 24 hours a day for your safety.

If you do find yourself in need of some assistance during the event, come and make yourself known at our Helpdesk / Tuckshop area in the middle of halls 1 and 2, and we’ll help however we can. If you are unsure about how to help someone, don’t hesitate to ask for help!
